The mode isn't announced, so neither is its price. Here is what you will definitely pay.
The short version
Rockstar hasn't said whether GTA 6 Online will be free, because the mode hasn't been announced. GTA Online came free with GTA 5 in 2013. Online play on consoles normally needs PlayStation Plus or a paid Xbox membership, and GTA+ is an optional extra at $7.99 a month.
Quick answer
Is GTA 6 Online free?
Not announced. GTA 6 launches single player on 19 November 2026, and Rockstar hasn't said whether a future online mode will be included or sold separately. GTA Online came free with GTA 5. Online play on consoles normally also needs PlayStation Plus or a paid Xbox membership, and GTA+ costs extra.
GTA Online cost nothing extra in 2013. It came inside GTA 5, two weeks after launch. Rockstar has given no sign yet whether GTA 6 Online will follow that pattern, because it hasn't announced GTA 6 Online at all.
What you can do is count the costs that already exist.
Is GTA 6 Online included with GTA 6?
Unknown. Take Two's preorder announcement lists the Standard Edition at $79.99 and describes a single player experience. It says nothing about an online mode or its price.
Has Rockstar ever sold GTA Online separately?
Yes, once. When GTA Online launched on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 15 March 2022, Rockstar released a standalone version, and PS5 players could claim it free for three months, according to the PlayStation Blog. That shows Rockstar is willing to split online from the story when it suits.
What will GTA 6 Online cost you?
| Item | Cost | Status |
|---|---|---|
| GTA 6 Standard | $79.99 or £69.99 | Confirmed |
| GTA 6 Online | Unknown | Not announced |
| PlayStation Plus or Xbox paid tier | Varies | Normally needed for console online |
