No subscription for the story. The free GTA+ month auto renews unless you cancel.
The short version
You don't need PS Plus to play GTA 6 at launch, because it is single player. Online multiplayer on PS5 normally needs PlayStation Plus, and on Xbox a paid membership. GTA+ is Rockstar's optional $7.99 a month membership for the current GTA Online, and digital GTA 6 preorders include a free month.
Quick answer
Do you need PS Plus for GTA 6 Online?
Rockstar hasn't said, because GTA 6 Online isn't announced. GTA 6 is single player at launch, so no subscription is needed for it. Online multiplayer on PS5 normally needs PlayStation Plus, and on Xbox a paid membership. GTA+ is a separate, optional Rockstar membership for GTA Online.
You can play GTA 6 on 19 November without paying for any subscription. It is a single player game at launch, as Take Two's preorder announcement says.
The subscription that needs watching is the free one. Digital preorders include a month of GTA+, and it doesn't stop on its own.
Which subscription does what?
| Subscription | What it is for | Needed for GTA 6 at launch |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation Plus | Online multiplayer on PlayStation | No |
| Xbox paid online tier | Online multiplayer on Xbox | No |
| GTA+ | Optional perks in the current GTA Online | No |
PlayStation Plus is Sony's membership and normally required for online play on PS5. GTA+ is Rockstar's own, listed at $7.99 a month on the Rockstar Store.
What is the catch with the free GTA+ month?
It auto renews. The PlayStation Store listing says the preorder GTA+ month must be redeemed by 31 March 2027 and renews at the monthly price until cancelled.
So set a reminder for the day the month ends. It applies to the current GTA Online and the GTA+ Games Library, not to GTA 6 itself.
Will GTA 6 Online need PS Plus?
Probably, if Rockstar follows the usual rules for console online games, but nothing is confirmed. GTA Online needed PS Plus on PS5 apart from limited trial offers, such as the seven day trial Sony ran for the standalone version in 2022.
When GTA 6 Online is announced, we will update this page with the exact requirement. Until then, see GTA 6 Online price and is GTA 6 Online free for the costs that are already known.
