GTA 5 Leaving PS Plus on 17 November Before GTA 6

Sony is warning PS5 owners with a console notice that also offers a GTA 6 preorder. On PS5 you need GTA Online to play Story Mode, so catalogue players lose both unless they buy the game.

PS5 owners are getting the warning on their consoles. PlayStation LifeStyle quotes the notice, which says GTA V is available to Extra and Premium members "but only until November 17". It gives two options, buy GTA V or preorder GTA 6.

Push Square calls it the first confirmed November removal. The rest of the month's departures should be revealed on 20 October.

What happens to GTA Online when GTA 5 leaves PS Plus?

You lose it too, unless you own it. Rockstar Games Support says GTA Online is required to play GTA V Story Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The catch is for anyone who bought Story Mode while playing through a subscription. Rockstar's support page says those players need to buy GTA Online to get back to their Story Mode progress. So check what you actually own before 17 November.

Will I lose my GTA 5 save data?

No, as long as you don't delete it. Sony's PlayStation Plus FAQ says catalogue games stop working when they leave the service, but your saves stay put.

If you buy the game later, you can pick up the same save. The PlayStation Blog FAQ adds that add ons bought for a catalogue game also lock when it leaves, and return when you buy the game.

Will GTA 5 come back to PS Plus?

Probably at some point, though nobody has said so. Push Square counts three stints for GTA 5 on PS Plus Extra since December 2023.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is on its third run too, the site notes. Rockstar's two biggest games tend to come and go in short cycles.

For now, the timing is the story. Kotaku picked up Sony's message from Reddit users, and the GTA 6 preorder button sits right beside the warning.
