The short version
Crossplay for GTA 6 Online hasn't been announced. GTA 6 launches single player on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026, so crossplay doesn't apply at launch. The current GTA Online doesn't let PlayStation and Xbox players share lobbies.
Quick answer
Will GTA 6 Online be crossplay?
Unknown. Rockstar hasn't announced crossplay or cross progression for GTA 6 Online. GTA 6 itself is single player at launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so crossplay doesn't apply on 19 November. The current GTA Online doesn't let PlayStation and Xbox players share lobbies.
GTA Online has run for 13 years with a wall down the middle. PlayStation players and Xbox players have never shared a lobby. Whether GTA 6 Online knocks that wall down is still unknown, because Rockstar hasn't announced GTA 6 Online.
At launch the question doesn't arise, because Take Two calls GTA 6 a single player title.
Does GTA Online have crossplay today?
No. PlayStation and Xbox players can't play together in GTA Online, and console players can't join PC lobbies.
| Feature | Current GTA Online | GTA 6 Online |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 with Xbox Series | No | Not announced |
| Console with PC | No | GTA 6 not on PC |
| Cross progression | Limited one time migration | Not announced |
Did GTA Online ever move progress between consoles?
Once, between generations. When GTA Online launched on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 15 March 2022, players could make a one time migration of characters and progress from PS4 or Xbox One, as the PlayStation Blog explained.
There was a catch. Rockstar Support says unspent purchased GTA$ couldn't move across console families, for example PS4 to Xbox Series X|S. Earned GTA$ could.
Can PC players join GTA 6?
No. Rockstar Support lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and no PC version has been announced. Our sister site explains why GTA 6 isn't on PC yet.
Should you pick the same console as your friends?
If online matters to you, yes, for now. With no crossplay announced and GTA Online's history of split lobbies, buying on the same platform as your crew is the safe bet.
